I always see IBM commercials on TV about how IBM is trying to change how the world works through innovation in business. Their goal is to better manage data to make smarter decisions based on that data. Their system could capture all types of information and turn data into intelligence and action.

Team

My team came in second in the project. Our strategy was to highly market the products that were selling at a decent rate in the South and the West regions because they were the largest population wise. Our pricing strategy was based on how well the particular items sold. If an item was not selling well we reduced the price but not below the cost we paid because then we would be earning a negative profit. Also the items that were selling at a high rate, we raised the prices to make them last. I learned that pricing and marketing play an important role in how business's make money and how they get customers. If i could improve on two things, I would improve our strategy on buying more products because we always had excess and maybe marketing the products that did not sell as well instead of just the ones that did.

Apple

I believe what Apple did was right because they already established their views and guidelines about social networking in their company and use by employees. This particular employee had all the knowledge and was aware of their views and policies but tried to get away with his actions. Therefore, I believe that what Apple did was right because the employee tried to get away with something that he knew was wrong in the first place.

Decision Making

One of the decision making tools I use frequently is Gullnet. Every semester we have to sign up for classes and there are a lot to choose from. You can pick what professor, what days, and what time you want a particular class. Other than Gullnet I really do not use other decision making tools. I usually just use a planner or notebook.
 I found a software called Spotfire that helps in business decision making. The software enables a person or business to make quick queries without the need of statistical graphs and also presents the data in a way that people can make decisions swiftly and in more confidence. Here is the link..

Plagerism

Hey Everyone,
I believe that technology has a great impact on plagiarism, mostly through the internet. A student can use spark notes to read summaries, plots, and character descriptions of a vast number of books. Also students can type in a question about a certain book or topic on google and they will be able to look at essays and other works by students. Also, there is even websites where a person can purchase a pre-written essay on a novel or book. I believe that the University takes steps to reduce plagiarism by having students submit their written work into a database that checks it against other students at the University as well as the internet as a whole. Also students are required to use a works cited sheet for most of their written assignments. Furthermore, the University monitors your internet usage and warns you that they will hand-out strict punishment for those caught plagiarizing including a zero on the assignment.

Ethics

Hey everyone,

Over the summer, I worked at a sporting goods store called Modells. The reason I got hired was because my friends worked there and put in a good recommendation. Modells had all the latest Under Armour and Nike apparel and also cleats, sporting goods, and shoes. There was a lot of cool stuff in the store that would interest most teens. Once most of my friends found out I worked there, a couple of them asked if they could come in and get stuff while I pretended to ring them up but didn't really charge them. I was put in a very tough situation. I was going to have to either hook up my friends and go against my morals or stand by my character and have them be mad at me. I chose to not help them because I had just started working there and more importantly, it went against so many of my morals and would make me feel like a dishonest person. In the end, my friends weren't even mad and I felt proud that I stood up for something that was right when I could have easily done the opposite. It is better to work hard for something rather then to look for the easy way out.

Education

Hey everyone,

While technology is expanding and growing, I believe it is having a some what negative impact on education. Technology can help in education. It can make students and teachers more organized and also make information presented easier and more accessible. However, I believe that students as well as teachers can become too reliant on advances in technology. Students often use the internet to search for answers and  ideas for an essay rather then actually reading the book or solving the problem. Students text there friends and do homework together and may not get as good of a grasp on the material. Also, Teachers rely on technology too. Teachers use power points and slides to get their point across instead of actually going in depth and teaching the material. A lot of work is assigned online by teachers instead of doing it in class where they can help students and write problems or ideas out for students. I believe the U.S. is just as intelligent as any other country but I feel that our goals are not all about doing the school work with these advances in technology that help us through it.
